Horseshoe Bay

Welcome To
Horseshoe Bay

Resort-living in the suburbs on the shores of the beautiful Lake LBJ.

History

Northwest of Austin and well into the Texas Hill Country, Horseshoe Bay is a beautiful suburb masquerading as a resort town. It avoids the tourist crowds while offering a robust list of fun activities for the residents, from watersports to some of the best golf courses in the state.

The community began in the 1970s as an area for retirees to settle but quickly attracted people of all ages, drawn to the small-town life with a growing economy and plenty to do. Now it’s home to celebrities, sports stars, and others who want to live on the stunning shores of Lake Lyndon B. Johnson and take advantage of local sports courses, courts, and fields while still having easy access to a big city. The rolling hills that surround the town are the perfect backdrop for a day of light shopping, and the people are so friendly that newcomers find it easy to settle in almost instantaneously.

What to Love

Local Lifestyle

Horseshoe Bay is perfect for people who want the relaxed vibe and easy convenience of a resort town, without the influx of tourists. Retired people love the area, although there are plenty of families and young professionals in the area as well. Life is laid-back but not slow, and the variety of leisure activities in the area means there’s no room for boredom in Horseshoe Bay.

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

The Horseshoe Bay Resort Yacht Club offers a waterfront view of Lake Lyndon B. Johnson while you dine on a dish from their menu which features fresh seafood like scallops and salmon. Another option for waterfront dining is the Bay View restaurant, where you can find plates like tuna poke and baby back ribs.

For a more casual night out, stop by the River City Grille for some of the best burgers in the Hill Country. While the menu includes other options like tacos or salads, the shining star is their BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, an All-American plate featuring some of Texas’ finest beef. For breakfast, head to the Blue Bonnet Cafe and try eggs with chicken-fried steak – and don’t forget an order of biscuits and gravy.

Things to Do

One of the most popular attractions in Horseshoe Bay is Horseshoe Bay Resort, where members will find five beautiful golf courses to play, a full-service spa, three crystal-clear pools, and a kids’ club for younger family members. Take a sunset cruise on Lake LBJ to watch the sun go down over Texas Hill Country, or meet a variety of birds at the Birds of the Bay show. There’s even the option to join a wine tour visiting some of the fifty wineries in the area.

If you manage to master Horseshoe Bay Resort’s golf courses, try your hand at a new one – there are numerous in the area, including six that are rated as the best golf courses in the entire state of Texas. Escondido’s course is one of those, designed by Tom Fazio and Beau Welling, with 18 holes running along hills and creeks, highlighting challenges formed by the natural landscape of the area.

Those who love to be out on the water will be glad to live so close to Lake LBJ. The 6.5-acre lake is perfect for fishing, boating, and watersports, or you can relax on the beach, listen to music, and enjoy the Texas sun.
